2. (n.) A passageway between fences or hedges which is not traveled as a highroad; an alley between buildings; a narrow way among trees, rocks, and other natural obstructions; hence, in a general sense, a narrow passageway; as, a lane between lines of men, or through a field of ice.

lan (rhume): An alley or bypath of a city. Occurs once in Luke 14:21, "Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city"; elsewhere translated "street," e.g. Matthew 6:2 Acts 9:11; Ecclesiasticus 9:7; Tobit 13:18.
