LEDGE

lej (shalabh): The word in the sense of side-projection is used in 1 Kings 7:28, 29 in connection with the bases of Solomon's Molten Sea (see SEA, THE MOLTEN); in 7:35, 36, where the King James Version uses the same word, the Revised Version (British and American) has "stay" (yadh, literally, "hand"). The Revised Version (British and American) likewise has "ledge" (round) for the King James Version "compass" (karkobh) in the description of the altar in Exodus 27:5; Exodus 38:4 (see ALTAR), and the American Standard Revised Version substitutes "ledge" for "settle" (`azarah) in Ezekiel 43:14, 17, 20; Ezekiel 45:19.

See TEMPLE.
